While most of the country knows Georgia for its peaches, those of us who live here know that as Autumn approaches so does apple season, and we grow some of the best. The North Georgia mountains are ripe with apple orchards, all of which offering their own varieties of apples and their own signature experience of picking them. No matter which orchard you choose, you are guaranteed a delicious fall outing that is fun for the whole family.

Red Apple Barn – the Red Apple Barn is situated right here in Ellijay and offers U-Pick apples on Saturdays and Sundays through October. And, beginning in October, they also have a pumpkin patch. The $5 tractor and tour price includes a tractor ride to and from the orchard, a tour of the farm, picking an apple from the orchard, a cup of cold cider and an apple cider doughnut. Of course you have the option to pick more apples if you want. Be sure to check their website for which apples are available on which dates.
Mercier Orchards – a little farther north of Ellijay is Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge. Mercier also offers U-Pick apples on Saturdays and Sundays through October. For $10, you get a bag to fill with freshly picked apples and a guided tractor tour. Children 2 and under are free, and you have the option to take a tractor tour without picking apples. Like Red Apple Barn, Mercier offers a wide variety of different types of apples, so check their website to see what they have for U-Pick on which weekends.
Hillcrest Orchards – Also located in Ellijay, Hillcrest Orchards features apple picking on Saturdays and Sundays through October 27. This orchards offers many activities and games for the whole family, including a live honey bee demonstration, corn maze, John Deere derby, petting farm, jumpy pillow and more. Admission is $7, but some of the activities may include an extra fee.
Reece Orchards – Another Ellijay destination, Reece Orchards offers U-Pick apples everyday from now through October. However, if you want to enjoy the wagon rides, apple cannon and petting farm, better plan a weekend trip because they are only offered on Saturdays and Sundays.
